Worship Center

In the late 1950s, it became clear that the Tabernacle was not large enough to accommodate conferences. Leadership considered multiple locations for the site, with the most popular located in the center of camp along the creek, but existing lodging made that option unfeasible. When the first Laurel Lodge was destroyed in a fire, tragedy turned into fortune, and plans were developed to construct a “New Tabernacle” over the creek. In 1964, the new worship space was dedicated.

Now known as the Worship Center, the building has been the central indoor worship space for conferences. Anyone who has stood in the creek beneath the pillared building during a worship service can attest to the celebration in the pews. It has also hosted weddings, concerts, youth events, camp skits, and leaseholder meetings. In the summer of 1989, updates were made to the building, including removing the railing of the worship stage and adding new large plate glass windows to showcase the beautiful redwood trees. Just three months later, part of the camp, including those new windows, would be devastated by the Loma Prieta Earthquake.

Prayer

A Prayer of Celebration

This is the day You have made, Lord—we rejoice and are glad in it! Let praise rise from this place like incense. May every song sung and every word taught from Your Word bring glory to Your name. Lord, hear our prayer.

Scripture

Psalm 118:24

The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.
