Sports Court and Playground

Nestled under the redwood trees of the flat, the Playground has long been a central place of gathering, imagination, and fun for the children and families of Mission Springs. It has housed different play structures and activities for many years, from both “baby” to “big” swings to a tall “rite of passage” metal slide to a sandbox to a merry-go-round that was more dangerous than any children or parents knew. God has been protecting the children of Mission Springs for a long time.

Outside the playground was an area designated for sports activities, from basketball to tetherball to horseshoes to ping pong and shuffleboard. In July 2018, Mission Springs enhanced the area to create a sport court, a covered recreational space designed to accommodate basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and informal meetings year-round. It is outfitted with a state-of-the-art sound system that provides amplified sound for meetings, dances, and movies. Adjacent to the Sports Court is a small amphitheater dedicated to Magnus Johnson whose heroism during the fire of 1929 continues to inspire others to “be a Magnus,” a leader who doesn’t give up!

Prayer

A Prayer for Strength and Protection

God of joy and movement, bless this space with Your protection. Strengthen every heart that plays here. Build endurance through trials, shield each child and adult from harm, and let laughter echo under Your watchful care. Lord, hear our prayer.

Scripture

Psalm 121:7-8

The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life;the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
