Redwood Chapel
Redwood Memorial Chapel was dedicated in 1962. Set atop a hillside at the north end of camp, it was built to provide a charming and intimate refuge for worship services, reflection, prayer, and meetings. Its initial construction, which included a massive stone fireplace and sliding doors to an exterior patio, was made possible by memorial gifts, hence the name of the building. For many years, it housed the youth group activities of visiting churches and the middle and high school programs during the Covenant Family Conference.
In recent years, the location has been revitalized. A winding path of memorial bricks leads past the exterior cross and through a beautiful prayer garden up to the chapel that was lovingly restored with a nod to Scandinavian architecture. The outside patio includes the quiet hum of a fountain, bench seating, and tables beneath the redwoods. Apart from the busy activity of the conference grounds, it is a quiet place of contemplation and prayer where we remember God’s faithfulness and ask for wisdom.
Prayer
A Prayer for God’s Wisdom and Faithfulness
Lord, in this place of remembrance, we honor Your faithfulness through generations. Grant us wisdom as we reflect on the past and courage to walk forward in hope. Your mercies are new every morning—great is Your faithfulness. Lord, hear our prayer.
Scripture
Proverbs 2:3-6
Indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
