Cathedral Grove

One of the most iconic locations at Mission Springs is Cathedral Grove. Constructed in the mid-1930s, it has long served as the outdoor space for worshipping God and celebrating God’s glory. It is fitting that attendees, sitting in the time-worn pews against the hillside, immediately find their gazes directed upward to the heights of the redwoods pointing to the sky. Though it has been cleaned or remodeled often over the course of 100 yearsincluding pouring concrete steps and constructing more seating, a retaining wall to hold back the hillside, and an enlarged platformthe beauty and majesty of the setting, created by God, remains a cornerstone and refuge for all who worship there. Even with no visitors present, the tune of “Great is Thy Faithfulness” played by Winnie Crew at the piano and Jack Martens at the upright bass lingers on the wind. It could be the reason that many couples have decided to exchange marriage vows under the trees.

Prayer

A Prayer for God’s Glory

Lord of creation, Your glory is revealed in every towering Redwood tree and whispering breeze. May this grove echo Your majesty and draw hearts to worship. To You be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever. Lord, hear our prayer.
